Project: Sleep – A Third of Life

In the initiative “Sleep – One Third of Life,” adolescents take part in research focused on sleep. Participants become acquainted with the world of sleep, collect information about their own sleep habits and those of their families, and engage in inquiry using the data they collect. Based on these data, they investigate the influence of sleep habits on their daily functioning.

The research is conducted in collaboration with Tamar Shochat from the Department of Nursing, who specializes in sleep research, and Eran Tauber from the Department of Evolutionary and Environmental Biology at University of Haifa. Support and guidance for schools are provided by Hani Svirsky, a member of the TCSS Center and a fellow in the Science Communication Group at the Faculty of Education in Science and Technology at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.

We invite you to participate in mapping the sleep landscape of children in Israel within a modern society characterized by extensive screen exposure and artificial light—and to help science address one of its great mysteries: why do we sleep?

The initiative is intended for students in grades 7–12. Participation in the initiative is organized on a grade-level basis.

Scientists: Tamar Shochat, Eran Tauber, and the TCSS Center.
