Project: Nature – City – Emotion

The “Nature–City–Emotion” initiative is a socio-citizen-science project that examines how different components of urban environments may influence the mental well-being of residents. In order to promote urban spaces designed in ways that support the mental well-being of their inhabitants, it is important to understand how various elements of the urban environment—such as trees, moving vehicles, and different landscapes—are associated with emotions and levels of psychological stress among people in different locations.

To support data collection, a new application called IntoMyZone was developed. The application can be used throughout Israel and is available in four languages: Hebrew, Arabic, English, and Russian. The initiative is accompanied by a series of lessons focusing on emotions and environment, intended to strengthen participants’ self-awareness and social awareness, and to encourage activist engagement for the well-being of the communities in which they live.

Target audience: Grades 7–12

Scope of activity: Approximately seven lessons, with the possibility for expansion

Appropriate conditions for implementation: Throughout the school year

Project lead: Shani Tzur Naveh

Scientific leadership: Keren Kaplan Mintz
