Project: Following the Cairo Geniza
“Following the Cairo Geniza” is a citizen science project in history that constitutes a partnership between schools and researchers in the Eliyahu Laboratory – Digital Humanities Lab at the University of Haifa. In this initiative, students take an active role in attempting to understand the lives of Jews in the Mediterranean basin across centuries through historical sources discovered in the Geniza. They formulate research questions and conduct independent inquiry through collaboration among teachers, students, and historians.
Target audience: Grades 7–12
Scope of activity: Approximately five lessons, with the possibility for expansion
